PCI – a Vital Security Standard

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) were developed by the major credit card companies in an effort to help organisations that process card payments proactively protect cardholder data by preventing credit card fraud, hacking and various other security infractions. It is a multi-faceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical measures.

Compliance with PCI standards is required of all merchants that store, process, or transmit cardholder data and applies to all acceptance environments; including retail (face-to-face), mail/telephone order, and e-commerce. The fallout of non-compliance has a domino effect on your business, and the financial implications of a breach can severely impact merchants of any size.
